Major Drug Bust: 1.5 Tons of Moroccan Cannabis Seized in Paris Region

An operation carried out on Monday by the police services in the Paris region led to the seizure of a ton and a half of cannabis originating from Morocco as well as the arrest of several people, including the head of the drug trafficking network.
Sources close to the case cited by AFP indicate that the investigation originally concerned arms trafficking but after several months, the police dismantled a network of drug importers active in the Paris region. This network is suspected of having brought several tons of drugs from Morocco via Spain.
The investigation began during the summer of 2018 when the police began to take an interest in a young man in his thirties known for various robbery cases. The latter is suspected of wanting to engage in arms trafficking. The investigators will quickly realize that he is making several round trips in the Malaga region, a known place for drug traffickers. At least fifteen convoys were carried out by the network and several tons of drugs were thus imported, according to the investigators.
During the operation carried out on Monday morning, the services of the Central Office for the Fight against Organized Crime (OCLCO) and the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) arrested 4 men in flagrante delicto while they were carrying out a transaction. 400 kilos of cannabis were seized in a car, 900 kilos in "Moroccan suitcases" in a box and 200 other kilos in another box as well as handguns.
