Lufthansa Morocco flights safe, but watch connections
While Lufthansa will remove 20,000 flights from its schedule by October, no Moroccan routes are currently listed among the cancelled services. However, travelers heading to Casablanca or Marrakech should remain vigilant about connections via major European hubs.
The decision is significant, but it does not directly target Morocco at this stage. The Lufthansa Group has announced a reduction of its summer schedule, with 20,000 short-haul flights withdrawn by October, primarily to reduce costs linked to rising fuel prices. The airline clarifies that this decrease represents less than 1% of its overall capacity, but affects several European routes around its major hubs, notably Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels and Rome.

The first affected routes are mainly European. Lufthansa has notably suspended or cancelled connections to Stavanger, Bydgoszcz, Rzeszów, Katowice, Newcastle, Glasgow and Heringsdorf. Other flights are being reorganized via Zurich, Vienna or Munich, with different connections for some passengers.
For Morocco, no route appears on this cancellation list. Casablanca–Frankfurt flights are still offered by Lufthansa, with a direct connection of approximately 3 hours 25 minutes and several weekly frequencies. The airline also indicates that its flights from Morocco to Frankfurt depart from Casablanca and Marrakech.
The Marrakech–Frankfurt connection remains also marketed. Lufthansa mentions a duration of approximately 3 hours 45 minutes and four flights per week on this route, operated in its seasonal schedule. Again, no specific cancellation is announced for this Moroccan destination.
The risk for Moroccan travelers or MREs is therefore mainly indirect. A passenger departing from Casablanca or Marrakech to Frankfurt may keep their main flight, but see their connection modified if they continue to another European city. This is particularly true for journeys with a stopover in Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich or Vienna, where Lufthansa is reorganizing part of its short-haul network.
Passengers affected by a cancellation should normally be notified by the airline. Lufthansa indicates that affected travelers can be rebooked on another flight, modify their ticket once free of charge, or request a refund when the flight is cancelled. The new option typically appears in the "My Bookings" section.

For travelers to Morocco, caution therefore remains advisable: this is not, for now, an announced cancellation of Lufthansa flights to the kingdom, but a European reorganization that may complicate certain itineraries with connections. Before departure, it is best to verify your ticket, especially if your journey passes through a secondary city in Germany or another European country.
