Lufthansa Cancels 130,000 Passenger Flights as Pilots Strike, Impacting Morocco Routes

The German airline Lufthansa has decided to cancel flights to Morocco. And for good reason, a general strike by pilots.
In a press release, Lufthansa announced on Wednesday, August 31 the cancellation of several flights this Friday, September 2, 2022 from and to its main airports in Frankfurt and Munich of its 5,500 pilots. This strike action is to last from 00:01 to 23:59. In total, "130,000 passengers are affected," the company said. This strike will also affect flights operated to Morocco. The leading European carrier serves several Moroccan cities.
At the origin of this strike, the non-satisfaction of a demand from the pilots. The latter are demanding a 5.5% increase in salaries. "The new wage negotiations [...] have failed," announced Vereinigung Cockpit, the only union representing the pilots. The company has offered that its pilots "obtain in two stages a total increase of 900 euros per month". A proposal that does not receive the union’s approval. "Lufthansa must make a better offer," said union leader Marcel Gröls.
