Legendary Moroccan Singer Hajja Hamdaouia Dies at 91, Leaving Rich Musical Legacy

Moroccan singer Hajja Hamdaouia died this Monday, April 5 at 1 a.m., at the Cheikh Zayd hospital in Rabat at the age of 91. The announcement was made by her son and manager Chawki Sifaoui.
Moroccan popular art has just lost one of its most illustrious icons. The diva of Moroccan music, Hajja Hamdaouia, was born in 1930 in Casablanca. She played a decisive role in the promotion and enhancement of Moroccan music.
During her career, which began in 1950, the diva of Aïta has marked several generations thanks to her hits "Daba iji", "Jiti ma jiti", "Dada ou hiani", "Al aar ya l’aar", "Lkass Hlou", "Mnin ana ou mnin nta" and "Hezou bina laalam".
Hajja Hamdaouia gave her touch of modernity to Aïta Marsawiya, an engaged musical style. The artist was decorated with the rank of Commander of the Alaouite Wissam Moukafaa Al Watania by King Mohammed VI in 2013. She had retired from the music scene last year due to her health condition.
