More than 40,800 pieces of content related to hate speech were detected in Spain during June 2026. Sports represent 16% of the messages recorded, making it the second main trigger after posts related to insecurity.

According to the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia, the World Cup triggered heavy circulation of racist and Islamophobic content targeting national teams, supporters, and players. Lamine Yamal is among the most exposed personalities, with a significant volume of hostile comments concerning his origins.

North Africans Massively Targeted

People of North African origin account for 88% of analyzed content, ten points higher than in May. Muslims are targeted in 11% of messages and people of African descent in 7%.

The violence of posts is also increasing. Nearly half of the content dehumanizes or severely degrades the targeted groups, while 32% present them as a threat. Six percent of messages directly encourage violence.

Platforms removed 61% of reported content. TikTok shows the highest removal rate at 98%, ahead of X at 93% and Facebook at 62%. Instagram removed only 32% and YouTube 8%.
