Lamine Yamal, the new Cristiano ? Why his refusal to celebrate Barça’s victory is scandalizing Spain

FC Barcelona snatched a precious victory (1-2) on the pitch of Atlético de Madrid thanks to a late goal from Robert Lewandowski in the 87th minute. However, the final whistle left room for an unexpected image: that of Lamine Yamal, visibly annoyed and standing apart from the collective celebrations. Despite his team’s success, the striker displayed deep frustration, multiplying gestures of irritation after failing to materialize his many individual attempts during the match.

Faced with this surprising reaction, coach Hansi Flick tried to calm the situation by explaining that it is "logical that he is dissatisfied, he tried many times and failed to score." However, this leniency is not shared by all. Journalist Paco González strongly criticized this behavior on the airwaves of "Tiempo de Juego", considering that it is "awful to turn football into an individual sport or tennis." For him, not sharing the joy of his teammates during such an important goal is a "very ugly" gesture.

According to Sport, the commentator even drew a scathing parallel with Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2014 Champions League final. He recalled that the Portuguese did not celebrate Sergio Ramos’ historic equalizer because he was not the author, preferring to celebrate a fourth anecdotal goal for his personal statistics. González regrets this mentality, stating that he does not understand this refusal to "share a joy with his teammates" in favor of purely individual frustration.
