Laporta revealed the rejection during the presentation of his book “This Is How We Saved Barça,” as part of his campaign for the club’s presidential elections scheduled for 15 March 2026. “Some people thought we were crazy,” he admitted, before stating that Yamal represents “the present and the future” of the Catalan club.

PSG denied in November 2024 that it had made such an offer, citing financial constraints. Since then, the matter has been definitively settled on Barcelona’s side: in May 2025, Yamal extended his contract until June 2031 with a release clause set at €1 billion — an unequivocal signal.
