Lamine Yamal’s Ballon d’Or Night: Family Flies to London, but Grandmother Stays Home
In London, Lamine Yamal is getting ready for the Ballon d’Or ceremony with his family. His paternal grandmother, Fátima, will remain in Rocafonda, near Barcelona. In the neighborhood, she still asks her son Abdul to find the right channel so she can watch her grandson play.

Sixteen guests on an initial list, a private plane for family members and several celebration plans: Lamine Yamal is preparing for the Ballon d’Or ceremony, scheduled for this Monday, October 26, in London. But Fátima, his 73-year-old Moroccan grandmother, will not be making the trip.
La Vanguardia met Abdul, the footballer’s uncle, at the family café in Rocafonda. Among the relatives expected in London are Sheila Ebana, the player’s mother, his brother Keyne, several cousins and his father, Mounir Nasraoui, who is listed as part of the delegation after spacing out his trips.
Fátima will stay in Mataró with Abdul, in the home Lamine bought for them. She insisted on living in her neighborhood, surrounded by neighbors she has known for decades. Every day, she still prepares meals for her son’s three children.
A grandmother far from the spotlight in Rocafonda
When she wants to watch Lamine on the pitch, she asks Abdul to come up and tune the television to the right channel. This familiar detail, reported by the Spanish daily, stands in contrast to the preparations for the prestigious evening in London.
Fátima and Abdul spent the summer in Morocco before returning to Spain about a month before the report. Since then, the player’s travels have made it harder for them to see each other. “We talk on the phone,” says his uncle, who had hoped to wish him good luck at Sunday’s Clásico.

Abdul and his wife work at the family bar LY 304, which opened in Rocafonda in October 2024. The venue draws so many people during matches that they are considering another, larger premises with two rooms. However, it would have to remain close to the family home.
The 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held at the London Palladium. Lamine Yamal plans to spend the night there before returning to Barcelona on Tuesday, where Fátima and Abdul will be waiting for him.
