Kuwaiti Businessman Sentenced to 7 Years for Raping Moroccan Babysitter in Spain

The Provincial Court of Alicante has sentenced a Kuwaiti businessman residing in Calpe (Alicante) to seven years in prison for the rape of a Moroccan woman he had hired as a babysitter for his children in 2019.
The court convicted the Kuwaiti of having abused the young woman at least once, taking advantage of his status as an employer and the fact that the Moroccan was staying at his home. However, the judges did not recognize the defendant’s guilt for the two other sexual assaults the victim accuses him of in her complaint, noting many contradictions in her testimony.
The Moroccan woman was hired as a babysitter for his two children in exchange for remuneration and the regularization of her situation in Spain. The young woman recounts that on September 12, 2019, the Kuwaiti entered her room in the early morning and sexually assaulted her. Faced with her resistance, the defendant allegedly began to kick and punch her. She managed to escape the house and came across an off-duty police officer, to whom she asked for help.
This is how the Civil Guard was alerted and the defendant arrested. The court has just sentenced him for a crime of rape to seven years in prison, as well as the payment to the victim of 280 euros in damages for the physical harm suffered and 15,000 euros for the moral harm. The court has also taken a restraining order against the defendant, prohibiting him from approaching the victim within 500 meters for ten years.
The Kuwaiti has already spent three years in detention, from September 13, 2019 to December 15, 2022. He therefore has four more years to serve. He has ten days to appeal this decision.
