Kushner's Memoir Reveals Details on Morocco-Israel Deal and Western Sahara Recognition

Jared Kushner, former senior adviser and son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, makes revelations about the normalization of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel, as well as the recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

In his memoirs, Breaking History: A White House Memoir, published on August 23 in the United States by Broadside Books, Jared Kushner describes Morocco as a "stable country that will ensure regional security and prevent the deployment of terrorist groups such as ISIS or Boko Haram." He also mentioned his meeting with King Mohammed VI, a "man widely appreciated by his people." Donald Trump’s son-in-law says he was given a "warm welcome" at the royal residence in Rabat in 2019, a welcome he "did not necessarily expect," because he says he feared "a cold response following the aggressive lobbying carried out by [...] Donald Trump to win the bid for the 2026 World Cup football against Rabat."

Morocco normalized its relations with Israel in December 2020 in exchange for the American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. "The main obstacle came from Republican Senator James Inhofe, former chairman of the Armed Services Committee," with "pro-separatist" positions, writes Jared Kushner in his memoirs. Finally, "a compromise on issues of American domestic policy was finally found between the White House and the elected official, allowing the situation to be unlocked," he adds.

After the agreement with Israel, "Benjamin Netanyahu did not want a liaison office but wanted the opening of an Israeli embassy in Morocco. A proposal that Bourita categorically refused, to the point of threatening to completely cancel the agreement," reveals Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
