King Mohammed VI Halts Construction of Major Moroccan Resort, Jeopardizing Tourism Plan

The decision of King Mohammed VI regarding the construction of the new seaside and tourist resort "Taghazout bay" undermines the Azur plan.
The Azur plan is seriously in difficulty. Several of its components are being demolished for "serious irregularities". It is also the subject of investigations, according to L’Économiste. This seaside resort has little chance of succeeding.
King Mohammed VI, during a visit, had recently ordered the halt of construction work on the new seaside and tourist resort "Taghazout bay", the demolition of villas and part of the hotels, and finally the reconstruction of several buildings. The sovereign had made this decision due to numerous irregularities noted in the construction of this resort. As the Azur plan is part of the program, its realization is now blocked.
The ambition of Morocco is to make Taghazout a success story with 9 operational luxury hotels. More specifically, it is 4 5-star hotels (Tikida Riu Argan Bay, Hyatt Regency, Fairmont, Hilton, Pickalbatros) and a 4-star hotel (Marriott).
