King Mohammed VI Gifts Pope Francis Symbolic DVD of Woman’s Historic Religious Talk

King Mohammed VI has the custom of offering gifts to foreign officials visiting Morocco. This was also the case for Pope Francis, who visited Morocco on March 30 and 31 for his first visit to the kingdom.
Among the gifts offered by the Moroccan sovereign, a DVD that has all the makings of a symbol, as noted by the weekly Jeune Afrique. It is the "DVD of the first religious talk of Ramadan given by a woman, Raja Mekkaoui". This happened on November 5, 2003 and the theme was the Surat An-Nisa (the Women). Raja Mekkaoui is now Morocco’s ambassador to the Vatican.
In addition, on March 30, King Mohammed VI invited all the Catholic personnel working at the Royal Palace in Rabat, including French, Ivorian and Spanish people, to greet the sovereign pontiff. A gesture that was no doubt greatly appreciated by all the staff.
