King Mohammed VI Arrives in Fez, Officials on Edge Amid Royal Visit
After spending several days in Agadir and its region, where some heads have fallen, King Mohammed VI is in Fez. The arrival of the sovereign is a source of panic for many officials who fear royal anger.
Arrived Tuesday evening in the spiritual capital, Fez, the Sovereign should inaugurate a set of development projects, in connection with the National Initiative for Human Development, as well as social programs in the suburbs of the city, not to mention the development work that has transformed the outer landscape of the city.
The king’s visit was framed, from start to finish, by a significant security system. Many units of the security services are deployed in the urban perimeter, while the gendarmes have positioned themselves on the highways and the road leading to Moulay Yaacoub, the Sovereign’s favorite place.
The city’s officials remain on high alert, knowing that they are not immune to royal anger, especially since the king is in the habit of making surprise visits, without an escort, to oversee the progress of projects inaugurated in the past.
