Kickboxing Scandal: Badr Hari Accused of Faking Injury in High-Stakes Match

The integrity of the match that opposed the Moroccan champion Badr Hari to his opponent Rico Verhoven has been called into question by the American channel CNN. It accuses the Moroccan athlete of having manipulated the fight, with the complicity of the organizer of this great sporting event, Glory, by agreeing to be defeated by injury.
Tens of thousands of bettors would have bet big on the Moroccan champion, due to his great notoriety. This situation was going to cause big losses to the Glory organization in the event of Badr Hari’s success, especially since the latter was heading for victory after knocking his rival to the ground twice.
According to the American channel, Hari was the favorite in the fight and the probabilities of his failure were almost zero. It is therefore difficult to understand that he abandoned the fight, even though he had taken the advantage over his opponent, by simulating an imaginary injury that would have deprived him of the title. On the other hand, he will receive a fairly substantial commission estimated at 20 million dollars, the channel claims.
According to American reports, the Glory organization and the gaming companies have the power to decide the winner before the start of the fight. This, in view of the number of bettors for each player. The athletes will then have to comply with the organizers’ recommendations, in execution of the terms of their contracts.
