Kenitra Unveils Fleet of 138 Locally-Made Buses to Tackle Urban Transport Crisis

Long plagued by an urban transport crisis, the city of Kenitra now has a fleet of 138 new generation buses, with the peculiarity that they are largely produced in Morocco.

Like Rabat and Casablanca, the inhabitants of the city of Kenitra will finally turn the page on suffering in public transport. These brand new buses have been put into service, following a ceremony chaired by the governor of the province of Kenitra, Fouad M’Hamdi, in the presence of other territorial officials.

On this occasion, the acting secretary general of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Taoufiq Moucharraf, indicated that out of the 138 buses in this fleet, 89 are locally manufactured and have been designed by Moroccan experts, with international standards and advanced technologies thus offering all the amenities to citizens and meeting all the accessibility conditions for people with reduced mobility.

This product, which demonstrates Moroccan industrial capacity, is the result of the contribution of 31 Moroccan companies, through the supply of several parts of these buses, added Taoufiq Mouchrif, noting that 51% of these parts were manufactured in Morocco and by Moroccans.

For his part, the CEO of the bus manufacturing company, Mohamed Lamrabet, indicated that 107 buses will ply Kenitra pending the delivery of the remaining vehicles at the end of March next after the completion of a number of procedures, including the tracing of routes, adding that this fleet was ready before the deadline, thanks to the mobilization of several players, including banks.

Equipped with surveillance cameras, a ramp for accessibility to people with special needs, a ticketing system made in Morocco, these buses will relieve the inhabitants of Kenitra, clearly lacking in collective urban transport to facilitate their movements in the city.
