Kénitra Auto Hub Expands: 96-Hectare Addition to Accommodate PSA Suppliers

Due to lack of space to accommodate new equipment manufacturers, the industrial acceleration zone of Kénitra will be expanded again. The protocol agreement was signed between the Minister of Industry and Trade, Moulay Hafid Elalamy and the CEO of CDG, Abdellatif Zaghnoun.

The site that houses the PSA Peugeot-Citroën ecosystem will be expanded by 96 hectares at the level of the Ameur Saflia commune, in the province of Kénitra and will have to house the equipment manufacturers who will evolve in the ecosystem of the French automobile manufacturer. "The site already hosts 66 equipment manufacturers, including 29 installed factories, of a dozen different nationalities. This represents an occupancy rate of 94%. It was therefore necessary to proceed with its extension in order to be able to accommodate the future suppliers of Peugeot-Citroën," said the minister, stressing that the objective is to reach a local integration rate of 80% by 2023, reported L’Économiste.

The agreement signed between the Ministry of Industry and the CDG will be an opportunity to define the terms and commitments of the stakeholders regarding the mobilization of land, the realization of the necessary studies for the commitment, the development, the promotion, the marketing and the management of the new extension. "The site, which is the fruit of the cooperation between the CDG, through MedZ and the State, will continue to offer the best price conditions," assured the CEO of the CDG, Abdellatif Zaghnoun. Currently, the industrial acceleration zone has 49 companies for a total investment of 20 billion DH and has generated 36,571 jobs.

However, not all sectors have escaped the impact of the health crisis related to the coronavirus. But, "for a few months now, they have all resumed and are even reaching their cruising speed, with the exception of the aerospace industry," due to the lack of effective resumption of air traffic, said the Minister of Industry. In addition, the industry department will establish the data of the various sectors, in order to accurately determine the impact of the health crisis on employment, turnover, exports, integration rate and others.
