Keep a low profile": the explosive revelations of a Maghrebi-origin gendarme on his hierarchy
A gendarme of the Republican Guard denounces six years of racism after receiving a letter of insults. An investigation is underway in Paris following his complaint for moral harassment and non-public defamation.
The case began on December 16, 2025, when Ryan (a pseudonym), a 29-year-old soldier, discovered an anonymous letter in his mailbox. The author insulted him as a "dirty Arab", reproaching him for wearing a traditional Algerian outfit at a wedding while off-duty. The next day, the gendarme filed a complaint. According to AFP, citing consistent sources, an investigation is currently underway and the soldier was heard by the investigators on January 21, 2026.

The plaintiff denounces "six years of racism" within his institution. He reports to Mediapart remarks from his commander, who allegedly asked him not to come to the barracks in a djellaba and to "keep a very low profile". Ryan also mentions a permanent suspicion from his colleagues and abusive checks on his visitors. His lawyer, Me Seydi Ba, is outraged: "If racism strikes up to there, it strikes everywhere".

The National Gendarmerie claims to apply a "zero tolerance" policy.
