Juliette Binoche Clarifies Spontaneous Césars Ceremony Interjection

Juliette Binoche recently commented on her intervention during Jamel Debbouze’s opening speech at the 48th Césars ceremony on February 24.
In an interview with Marie-Claire on Thursday, the 59-year-old actress, starring in the film La Passion de Dodin-Bouffant, said her intervention during Jamel Debbouze’s speech in the legendary Olympia hall was not prepared. "Not at all. He talked about ninjas popping up suddenly, I took him at his word!" she explained, without going into more details.
"I disagree. We also make entrances," Juliette Binoche had reacted, after Jamel Debbouze expressed outrage at the desertion of cinemas in recent years, taking a jab at auteur films in France. "What’s working in cinema right now? Avatar, Asterix, Top Gun. Stunts and special effects. I looked at our auteur films... No stunts, no special effects. That’s normal. But seriously, do you want to get admissions? You have to boost our scripts, be more creative," the comedian had criticized.
In an Instagram post on February 25, the day after the ceremony, Juliette Binoche had justified her act. "I couldn’t help but get up when Jamel started snickering about auteur films [...] Sorry Jamel, with all the respect and love I have for you, and you know it, I don’t agree to let you denigrate that cinema, nor those who take the risk of doing it, it’s too easy [...] So no snickering. Tolerance and a little appreciation of differences [...] Moral of the story: you can’t say just anything (even at the Césars!? Well yeah) ", she wrote.
