Jorge Vilda Aims to Elevate Moroccan Women's Soccer with Olympic and World Cup Goals

The new coach of the Moroccan women’s football team, Jorge Vilda, is called upon to meet three important challenges: qualify the Atlas Lionesses for the Olympics, the next World Cup and the Africa Cup. Morocco has made all the means available to it to achieve these objectives.

After winning the Women’s World Cup with Spain, Vilda is now leading the Moroccan women’s team that he will work to develop. First of all, the Madrid coach will have to obtain the qualification of the Atlas Lionesses for the Olympic Games and the next Africa Cup and World Cup. If he manages to achieve these objectives, he could earn a salary of 400,000 euros, well above what he was earning in Spain, between 160 and 170,000 euros.

Targeted by an investigation in the Rubiales case, Vilda feels more serene in Morocco, as the subject does not arouse interest and debate in the kingdom. "He knows very well that things are different here. It’s a Muslim country...," several Moroccan journalists told Relevo. In addition to the absence of media pressure in Morocco, Vilda also lives in comfort. The Spanish coach is housed at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat where he will coach the seniors and coordinate the youth teams.

The Mohammed VI Complex is one of the most modern on the continent. It has four natural grass football pitches, three synthetic pitches, a hybrid pitch, a covered pitch, tennis courts, an outdoor Olympic pool, sports halls and an elite medical center. The Moroccan Football Federation has also provided Vilda with a car and a bodyguard.
