Jet Ski Tragedy: Two Franco-Moroccans Killed by Algerian Coast Guard Near Maritime Border

While a group of four Franco-Moroccans were jet skiing in Saïdia, just a few cables from the maritime border with Algeria, two of them were killed by the Algerian coast guards on Tuesday, August 29. Mohamed Kissi, a survivor who mourns his younger brother, Bilal, recounts what happened.
A vacation that turns to tragedy for four Franco-Moroccans, jet ski enthusiasts. For two of them, it will be their last jet ski. "We took our jet skis and left the Marina towards Cap de l’eau. We turned off at Sid El Bachir where we had eaten fish before turning back. [...] Around 5:30 pm, we got lost. We were running out of fuel for the jet skis and we were drifting. In the dark, we found ourselves in Algerian waters," recounts Mohamed Kissi, a Franco-Moroccan whose family is from Oujda and whose younger brother who was on another bike lost his life, to 360. This is the beginning of their nightmare.
Bilal, 29, Mohamed’s brother, exchanges with an Algerian coast guard patrol that has approached them. In the process, he makes a gesture with his arm pointing west. "He was indicating the direction to take to reach Saïdia," continues the survivor. As the vacationers were struggling to regain the Moroccan coast, they came under live fire. Bilal Kissi and his friend Abdelali Mechouer, 40, were fatally shot. The Algerian army zodiac hits and overturns the jet ski of the fourth Moroccan. Wounded by a bullet, he will be arrested and then detained in Algeria, says Mohamed Kissi. The latter saved his life by swimming hard westward until he crossed a Royal Gendarmerie patrol, who, according to him, were searching for them.
The gendarmerie elements took him to the marina. The gendarmerie boat took care of towing his jet ski and another one that bore traces of blood.
