Jamel Debbouze Reflects on Career Setbacks and Comedy Special Criticism

Like any artist, the Franco-Moroccan comedian Jamel Debbouze has known success but also setbacks. He opened up about his personal wounds.
On the occasion of the broadcast of the 10th anniversary edition of the Marrakech du rire on M6 on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Jamel Debbouze gave an interview to Télécâble Sat, in which he looked back on his latest one-man-show, Maintenant ou Jamel, which was poorly received by Internet users. The comedian faced criticism after its broadcast in October 2019. "It hurt me because it wasn’t cheap, he thus admitted. We had standing ovations in the provinces and on the evening of the live broadcast on M6, there were two or three guys on Twitter who brought me down."
"My dear Jamel, I think it’s time to stop the one-man-shows, your jokes are heavy and no longer make people laugh, produce the young people and that’s it..." had written an Internet user. "The children who ring the doorbell and tell me ’trick or treat’ make me laugh more than him," had blurted out another. These criticisms have pushed the husband of Mélissa Theuriau not to venture into this field again: "I will never do a live TV show again. It vaccinated me."
