Jamel Debbouze Cancels 10th Marrakech Comedy Festival Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Coronavirus manages to force the 10th edition of the Marrakech du Rire (MDR) Festival, which was to be held from June 9 to 14, to be canceled. Jamel Debbouze announced it on his Twitter account.

It is in simple but sad words that the comedian announced the cancellation of this event that brought together thousands of people. "Faced with too many uncertainties related to this DAMN VIRUS and an inability to prepare this festival under good conditions, it is with great regret that we are forced to cancel this June 2020 edition," he wrote.

Yet Jamel Debbouze was looking forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of this festival that has managed to "occupy a prominent place among international comedy events". The founder of the MDR had been preparing for years to celebrate this anniversary in style, which he said "would mark a date in history".

Unfortunately, the coronavirus has imposed itself and destroyed all the efforts and energies for the success of this celebration. Jamel Debbouze had promised "10 times more laughter and 10 times more pleasure", with several new features and about twenty shows on the program. "We will meet again in June 2021 and we will celebrate TOGETHER as it should the ten years of the Marrakech du Rire on M6 and the party will be even more beautiful," he assured.

He also paid tribute to the audience who must be disappointed by this missed appointment, to all the stakeholders of the MDR. "A special thought for the MDR teams, for all the technicians, the artists, the partners and the public who have been supporting us for all these years," he added.
