The Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, at the Liévin meeting, broke the indoor world record in the 1,500m, surpassing that of the Ethiopian Samuel Tefera. His new challenge: to beat the record of the Moroccan legend Hicham El Guerrouj.
The Norwegian athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen set, on Thursday, February 17, at the Liévin (Pas-de-Calais) meeting, the best time of all time in the indoor 1,500m in 3 minutes 30 seconds 60, thus surpassing that of the Ethiopian Samuel Tefera (3 minutes 31 seconds 4 in February 2019). After breaking this record, the 21-year-old Olympic champion has a new challenge, that of erasing from the record books the Moroccan legend Hicham El Guerrouj.
The famous Moroccan athlete holds several records. In 1998, he set his first world records in the 1,500m (3min 26 s 00/3min 26 s 45). He then set more records: 3min 27 s 21 in 2000, 3min 26 s 12 in 2001, 3min 26 s 89/3min 26 s 96/3min 26 s 34 in 2002.
