Jailed Moroccan Journalist Seeks Royal Pardon Amid Rape and Trafficking Charges

The Director of the daily newspaper "Akhbar Al Yaoum" has decided to seek a royal pardon, as a last resort in his inextricable case. Taoufik Bouachrine is being prosecuted for human trafficking, rape, violence and sexual harassment.
According to Akhbarona, before requesting the royal pardon, the person concerned should, first of all, apologize to his victims and demand that his supporters stop harassing the plaintiffs.
In any case, the royal pardon cannot take place in an ongoing trial, knowing that the request concerns a case of multiple rapes. According to observers, the request for pardon is incompatible with the magnitude of the crimes he is accused of.
Taoufik Bouachrine was, it should be recalled, sentenced by the Criminal Court of Casablanca to a term of 12 years’ imprisonment, accompanied by a fine of 200,000 dirhams.
