Moroccan Inmate Remains Jailed Despite Royal Pardon, Prison Oversight Reveals

A prisoner has been kept in detention at the Oudayas prison in Marrakech, despite the royal pardon granted to him. This procedural flaw was noted by a Central Commission under the General Inspectorate of the Prison Administration.
The Commission, on a visit to the Oudayas prison on Tuesday, September 10, found that the prison administration had failed to execute the royal order issued in favor of the inmate, dated July 31, Hibapress reported.
The incident, which was discovered by the administration of the Ouarzazate prison, forced the members of the Commission to seek explanations from the Regional Directorate of Marrakech-Safi. The statements of the manager and employees showed negligence in the follow-up and execution of the royal pardon orders.
The site adds that the continued imprisonment of an inmate who has benefited from the royal pardon is considered arbitrary detention, which is condemnable by law. As a result, the prison administration should be held accountable for its error, in parallel with the Regional Directorate of Prisons.
