Istiqlal Party Advocates for Voting Rights of Moroccan Expatriates in 2021 Elections

"The participation of Moroccans residing abroad in the 2021 legislative elections" was at the heart of a conference initiated by the Coordination of the Istiqlal Party in Europe on Friday, September 25. An important point discussed was political representation and the right to vote, in the run-up to the 2021 legislative elections.
For Noureddine Mediane, president of the Istiqlal Group in the House of Representatives and member of the executive committee of the Istiqlal party, his political party places the issue of the political participation of Moroccans residing abroad at the center of its interests and programs. "This file has a long historical process and has been raised since the first legislative elections of 1963," he explains.
According to Mr. Mediane, today, the role of the some 6 million Moroccans of the world cannot be reduced to the economic or financial. These Moroccans need to be heard, and they have already done so, through many proposals in the common memorandum that Istiqlal, the PAM and the PPS submitted to the Ministry of the Interior.
The activation of the right to vote and political representation of Moroccans residing abroad, provided for in Article 17 of the Moroccan Constitution, the establishment of a new electoral map resulting in the creation of a 13th region, the voting method specific to Moroccans residing abroad, the demand for a quota in favor of Moroccans residing abroad... are issues that concern, he affirms, the party.
As well as the representation of Moroccans residing abroad. "This community, with its enormous potential, would be of great use to the elected institutions," he insisted.
The priority of the moment, Moroccans residing abroad must address petitions to the Head of Government and the Ministry of the Interior, to put pressure on the government, and thus accelerate the process of the political participation of the diaspora.
