Israeli Airlines Launch Direct Flights to Marrakech, Boosting Tourism Ties

It’s official, the Israeli airlines Israir and El Al now have direct flights to Marrakech. The inauguration takes place this Sunday, July 25, 2021.
The first direct flight to Marrakech operated by Israir arrives this Sunday around 1 p.m. in Marrakech with a first group of 100 Israeli tourists and crew members, dressed in djellabas for the occasion. The second flight is that of a Boeing 787 from the El Al company, which will depart from Tel Aviv at 11:20 local time to land in Marrakech around 3:30 p.m. (GMT +1). In total, more than 200 passengers will land at Marrakech’s Menara airport.
From now on, with a round-trip ticket of around $500, passengers of the two airlines will be able to travel to Marrakech two to three times a week, via commercial flights, thus promoting travel and the development of relations between the two countries. It should be noted that Morocco hosts the largest Jewish community in North Africa, with 3,000 souls, while some 700,000 Jews of Moroccan origin live in the Hebrew state.
This inauguration follows exchanges between the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alon Ushpiz, and his Moroccan counterpart Fouad Yazourh, in early July in Rabat. Following these inaugural flights, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yaïr Lapid, plans to come to Morocco. The agenda remains to be specified.
