Israel’s Netanyahu Invited to Morocco Following Western Sahara Recognition

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has received an official invitation to visit Morocco from King Mohammed VI, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office published on Wednesday. This invitation comes two days after Israel recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
King Mohammed VI, in a message, had earlier expressed his gratitude to Israel for its position, mentioning the hope that Netanyahu’s visit would "initiate new perspectives to consolidate bilateral relations". The date of this visit remains to be determined.
Similarly, Israel’s wish to open a consulate in Dakhla was welcomed by the Moroccan sovereign. After the Israeli announcement, a senior Moroccan official informed Reuters that the steps to transform Morocco’s liaison office in Israel into an embassy were "underway", without giving a specific date.
