Israel and Morocco Strengthen Transport Ties, Sahara Stance Expected Soon

During a visit to Morocco, Israeli Transport Minister Miri Regev signed several agreements with her Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Abdeljalil, including on the mutual recognition of driver’s licenses, the consolidation of maritime agreements, and the establishment of direct links between the ports of the two countries. Israel is also expected to pronounce itself on the Sahara very soon.
These bilateral agreements, covering maritime, land and air domains, should significantly strengthen cooperation between Israel and Morocco, Regev said on i24news. The discussions also addressed subjects of technological innovation in mobility, including high-speed rail lines, airport infrastructure and air links.
The Israeli minister also mentioned initiatives to create joint working groups in the fields of intelligent transport, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles and drones, stressing that Morocco could greatly benefit from Israeli expertise in these areas. In addition, she expressed her satisfaction in noting a strong willingness of Morocco to collaborate with Israel.
Regarding the Sahara, recognized in 2020 by the United States as Moroccan sovereign territory, Regev indicated that Israel is aware of the importance of this issue for Morocco. "Relations with Morocco are of the utmost importance for Israel, and I am certain that the government will take a position on this issue very soon," she said.
