Irish Travelers Flock to Morocco for Extended Stays Amid Rising Costs at Home

The inflation affecting Ireland is pushing many Irish to rush to sunny countries like Morocco, where the cost of living is much lower.
In Ireland, travel agencies are recording strong demand for longer stays in warm countries, due to inflation and the high cost of living. Since early November, many vacationers have been flying to destinations such as the Canary Islands - including Lanzarote and Tenerife - and Morocco for a stay of at least one month.

"Our peak period for people booking vacations is normally January, but it has started in early November. They are not just going for a few days or a week, they are staying a month or more," said Tom Britton, director of Marble City Travel in Kilkenny. Among those leaving Ireland in recent weeks are people who work from home.
"Those who can, as they say, ’work from home’, that is, anywhere ’because of the type of job they have, who are usually younger, work from the Canaries, because it’s cheaper, more economical and the weather is better. They also take advantage of very cheap flights," explained the manager.
