Iraq Cancels Concert of Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred Amid Protests Over Sexual Assault Allegations

The "Sinbad Land" (Baghdad) protests have prompted the city administration to cancel the concert of Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred, accused of sexual assault, scheduled for Thursday, June 9.
As the day of the concert was approaching, the boycott campaign launched on social media to call on the authorities to cancel the concert gained momentum. In parallel, demonstrations were organized in the city of "Sinbad Land" (Baghdad), where Saad Lamjarred was to perform on Thursday. Faced with this situation, the authorities had to cancel the concert. The protesters condemn the fact that a man accused of rape and harassment in the United States and France is allowed to give a concert in Baghdad.
On his Instagram account, the Moroccan artist reacted to the cancellation of his concert. "For Iraq, I love you no matter what. We send you a lot of love from Baghdad," said Saad Lamjarred in a story. This is not the first time that a concert by the performer of M3allem has been canceled in a foreign country. In Egypt, the authorities had canceled in October 2020 his scheduled concert at the Cairo Show Theater, after a similar call for a boycott.
