Interpol Fugitive: Algerian Drug Lord Arrested in Morocco After Major Bust

On the run and under an Interpol international arrest warrant, an Algerian suspected of drug trafficking was arrested on Thursday in Casablanca. The accused was running a very active drug trafficking network in Aïn Beïda, a commune in northeastern Algeria, near the province of Constantine.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said the alleged drug trafficker, a 37-year-old Algerian national, had been caught in flagrante delicto of drug trafficking in Aïn Beïda. It involved 156 kilograms of cannabis resin ready for sale. But the man managed to escape the Algerian justice system, which issued an international arrest warrant against him, with an Interpol red notice.
The fugitive was spotted and arrested by the Moroccan police, the statement from the General Directorate of National Security said, noting that the arrest of this trafficker is a major success for the Moroccan authorities.
On the Algerian side, the Attorney General intends to make a formal request for extradition to Morocco, so that the suspect can answer for his actions before the Algerian justice system.
