Wednesday 20 July 2022, by
Early Tuesday morning, July 19, police elements at the port of Beni N’sar in Nador arrested two Algerian nationals for their alleged involvement in a case of theft and international car smuggling.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said the two Algerian nationals, aged 26 and 34, were arrested during checks carried out by the police on a boat coming from a French port. They allegedly tried to smuggle two vehicles registered in France into Morocco. But the registration numbers of the two vehicles were already flagged in the Interpol international criminal police organization’s databases as being those of cars stolen in an Eastern European country.
According to the initial information available to the security services, the two Algerian citizens are close to an international network of stolen car trafficking. They have distinguished themselves in recent years by stealing cars in various European countries, then taking care to find them French registration plates, before reselling them abroad.
The two suspects were arrested with a Moroccan-Spanish national. They are all three the subject of a judicial investigation entrusted to the judicial police brigade of the city of Nador.
