Interior Minister Urges New Regional Officials to Cut Spending Amid Economic Recovery

The new walis and governors must rationalize the expenses imposed by the health crisis and comply with the legal and regulatory provisions in force. They are invited to limit their expenses to the strict minimum.
This orientation of the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit addressed in a circular to the elected officials, plunges the new masters of the local authorities into the heavy mission that awaits them, reports the daily Assabah.
To this end, the note states that they are invited to prepare the budgets of the municipalities and to make every effort to implement the national economic recovery plan, taking into account the application of the new law on local taxes to improve the revenues of the municipal councils.
To this end, the minister has asked the local authorities to support the authorizing officers in the preparation of the budgets, in coordination with the regional services of the General Treasury.
Regarding investments, the circular calls for giving priority to ongoing projects or those that have been the subject of agreements with national and international institutions.
In order to increase revenues, the Minister of the Interior insisted on the need to apply the new tax law, to broaden the tax base and to improve the collection of local taxes, the note states.
