Morocco’s New Parliament: Over Half of MPs Aged 55+, Education Levels Vary

The new Moroccan parliament will be composed mainly of people over 55 years of age. 5.32% of them did not go beyond the primary cycle and more than a quarter attended high school.
We know a little more about the typical profile of the new elected officials of the nation. According to the statistics published by the Ministry of the Interior relating to the legislative elections of September 8 last, the under 35s represent 8.35% while the 35-45 year olds represent 18.23%.
A little more than a third of the new deputies are between 45 and 55 years old (33.92%). And the most dominant age group remains that of elected officials over 55 years of age with a rate of 39.49%.
As for the level of education, more than a quarter of the new elected officials did not go beyond high school (27.59%), while those able to justify higher education represent 66.33%.
It is worth noting the increase in the representation of women in parliament. For the next term, they represent 24.3% of the elected officials.
