Interim CGEM President Named After Mezouar’s Sudden Resignation

On October 13, Salaheddine Mezouar, then President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), had sent, by email, to all his collaborators, his letter of resignation from his position as head of the employers’ organization. An unexpected resignation that came a few hours after a scathing reprimand from the Government towards the boss of bosses, following remarks he had made about the current situation in Algeria, on the occasion of a conference organized as part of the World Policy Conference in Marrakech.
Pending the holding of new elections at the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), the organization has opted for an interim presidency. And the choice has fallen on Mohamed Bachiri who, within the CGEM, has held the position of Chairman of the "Sectoral Solutions" Commission. Mohamed Bachiri, Managing Director of Somaca, will therefore occupy the position of President of the CGEM for a few weeks.
The CGEM held a press conference on Monday evening to provide details on the organization’s situation. According to Huffpost, David Toledano, President of the Federation of Construction Materials Industries, who chaired the Board of Directors, announced that the call for applications is scheduled for October 31.
In addition, interested candidates have until Friday, December 13 to apply. The validation of the applications will be done in less than five days to leave the place, from December 16 to January 22, to the electoral campaign following which the new President of the CGEM will be officially designated.
For the time being, the interim President, saying he is very honored by his appointment at the head of the CGEM, told the media that he measures the full responsibility that this nomination, even on a provisional basis, implies. He promises to ensure the cohesion of the CGEM family and to prioritize the general interest and that of the companies.
Bachiri, who is embarking on a decisive mission for the CGEM, has also made a "moral commitment": not to run for the presidency in January.
