Inter’s Lukaku Faces Racist Monkey Chants During Cagliari Match

Wednesday 4 September 2019, by Bladi.net

The Belgian striker of Inter Milan, Romelu Lukaku, was the target of racist chants on Sunday, September 1, during his team’s match in Cagliari, Sardinia, counting for the 2nd day of Serie A.

Repeat offenders despite the sanctions announced by FIFA, the club’s supporters could not resist the urge to distract Lukaku. The Inter striker, who was about to take a penalty for his club, heard these monkey chants coming from the stands. Determined to give his team the advantage and show his critics his good performance, the Belgian player scored the goal (2-1). These cries, perfectly audible on Italian television, continued for a few seconds, despite the beautiful realization of the striker, reports the HuffPost.

According to the same media, the Inter Milan player, Lukaku, however, gave a furious look in the direction of the stands where these cries came from before being surrounded by his teammates. In order not to give reason to these racist spectators, the match was not stopped. It continued normally under the control of the referee.

With two goals to his tally in two Serie A matches, Lukaku, who arrived this summer at Inter from Manchester United, intends to reveal his talents and not be distracted by these racist supporters.

These behaviors of some spectators are struggling to disappear from habits. In April, striker Moise Kean, then at Juventus, had been the target of the same racist chants after scoring a goal in Cagliari. In the same stadium, Juventus’ Frenchman Blaise Matuidi, Milan’s Italian Mario Balotelli, Inter’s Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o or Pescara’s Ghanaian Sulley Muntari have also been victims of these chants.
