Indian Auto Parts Giant SMG to Build Second Factory in Morocco’s Tanger Automotive City

The Indian giant Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG) is setting up in Tanger Automotive City. Pending the construction of its second production site, SMG is working to obtain the administrative authorizations related to the environmental impact of such a project.
The Indian Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG) will soon start the construction of a second factory in Morocco. SMG wants to invest 150 million dirhams to build a factory for the manufacture of automotive interior systems in the Tanger Automotive City area. According to some sources close to SMG’s Moroccan subsidiary, the inauguration of this second production unit, after the one in Tetouan, will take place in 2021 and will employ more than a hundred employees. For the moment, the project is in the administrative authorization phase, especially with regard to its impact on the environment.
The project to build this second production unit demonstrates that Morocco remains attractive to major global groups, reports Challenge. It is in the top 3 of Indian automotive suppliers, with a consolidated turnover of 2018/19 of 11.7 billion dollars and an industrial network of more than 270 factories spread across about forty countries around the world.
