IMF Sees Signs of Economic Recovery in Morocco as Exports Rebound

The head of the International Monetary Fund mission in charge of Morocco, Roberto Cardarelli, recently participated in a PCNS webinar. Among the topics discussed during this virtual meeting was the economic crisis generated by the health crisis.
"Global Economic Forecasts: What Prospects for Morocco and the MENA Region?". This was the theme around which several experts gathered to discuss the economic recovery in Morocco. According to Roberto Cardarelli, the signs of recovery in Morocco are visible through trade flows in exports and imports, which have rebounded at the beginning of 2021.
He also stressed that the industrial sector had played an important role in the economic recovery in Morocco, recalling that during the last quarter of 2020, 80,000 jobs had been created, a "good sign that inspires hope".
The acceleration of the pace of economic recovery, according to Roberto Cardarelli, depends on the "launch of the necessary structural reforms, including the generalization of social protection while remedying the delay recorded in access to health services in terms of the number of hospitals and human resources, not to mention the problems related to the quality of education and the labor market".
