Wednesday 5 February 2020, by
Kristalina Georgieva, the new Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is expected in Morocco as early as February 19 on economic development issues.
The new Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be on an official visit to Morocco on February 19, says Aujourd’hui Le Maroc. This will be one of the stages of her Maghreb tour. Kristalina Georgieva is to intervene with the Moroccan side, on issues of great concern, in particular with the Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun, and the Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, Abdelatif Jouahri.
It will be about the renewal of the Precautionary and Liquidity Line (PLL) and the preparations for the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings, which are scheduled to be held in Marrakech in October 2021, not to mention the work on the flexibility of the dirham. A few days ago, the IMF published a report on the economic and financial situation in Morocco. It is a question of presenting the level of progress achieved by the country.
There were also some remarks: the second review carried out by the IMF delegation within the framework of the Precautionary and Liquidity Line arrangement granted to Morocco and which covers several themes, leaves some regrets including the flexibility of the exchange rate regime, taxation, governance. As such, it remains for Morocco, which has already taken measures within the framework of the 2020 Finance Act, to inform the IMF of its position, the media points out.
