Illegal Shisha Cafe Raided in Casablanca Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

A shisha cafe owner continued to operate, despite Morocco’s decision to close all these establishments in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The local authorities of the Moulay Rachid prefecture, accompanied by the security forces, went to Ben M’Sick, in Casablanca, to enforce this decision.
At first, the owner of the shisha cafe on Boulevard El Harti in Ben M’Sick had respected the decision of the Ministry of the Interior by closing his establishment. But, being the owner of a building, he transferred all the cafe equipment to an apartment.
When the caïd and the auxiliary forces arrived on Wednesday, March 18, it was a rout. Ten customers, who were smoking shisha, fled before being surrounded on the roof. The cafe owner himself had time to escape, well before the arrival of the local authorities. The security forces seized chairs, tables, shishas and a large quantity of flavors.
This operation follows the demolition of seven shisha cafes in the same prefecture.
