Huelva Prepares for Influx of 15,000 Moroccan Farm Workers as Berry Season Begins

The Moroccan seasonal workers will start arriving in Huelva in early January for the strawberry and berry campaign. In total, 15,000 seasonal workers, including 5,000 new ones, are expected.
The sub-delegation of the government in Huelva has announced the arrival in three phases of an initial wave of 10,000 Moroccan seasonal workers between January and mid-March, followed by a second wave of 5,000 new seasonal workers between the second half of March and early April.
With the lifting of health restrictions at the borders, the seasonal workers should arrive in an "orderly" manner by ferry through the port of Tarifa (Cádiz) and will then be transported to the province of Huelva in a "very variable and even daily" manner, depending on the start of the harvest activity in each company.
In addition to the Moroccan seasonal workers, a contingent of 800 seasonal workers from Ecuador (250) and Honduras (550) is expected in Huelva from February. Spain is in its second year of hiring seasonal workers from these countries, after the pilot experience of the 2021/2022 campaign in which 457 seasonal workers from these countries participated.
