Huelva Port to Launch New Maritime Route to Morocco in 2022, Boosting Trade and Seasonal Worker Travel

The president of the Port Authority of Huelva (APH), Pilar Miranda, announced on a local radio station that the port will launch new regular lines with Morocco in 2022 in order to streamline the traffic of raw materials and agri-food products.
Miranda recalled that the port of Huelva has requested to be a Schengen border "to have the possibility of carrying out both passenger and freight traffic" and to have "more regular lines". The new maritime line that will be launched as early as 2022 towards Morocco will be an opportunity for Moroccan seasonal workers who come every year for the red fruit harvest in Huelva. They will thus be able to return more easily to Morocco "without having to get up at four o’clock to go to the port of Algeciras," she specifies.

Before launching the new line, the port has undertaken renovation work on its electrical network and internal roads. The port of Huelva is the second largest port in Europe. In 2020, it recorded a traffic of 30 million tons of goods and has already exceeded this performance this year, Miranda stressed, stating that the port of Huelva is "an economic engine" for the province.
