Homeless Man in Spain Finds €300 in Trash, Returns Money to Police

A Moroccan living in a very difficult situation in southern Spain found a wallet containing around 300 euros and he would not have hesitated for a second to return it to its owner. The homeless man was looking for something to eat in a trash can.

According to the local newspaper digitalleon.es, Abdelfarid Nouami was rummaging through the trash cans "to find something to put in his mouth". In one of them, he came across a pair of pants with a wallet. When he opened it, he was surprised to find the sum of 300 euros, in addition to identity documents and bank cards. The events took place last week in the center of the city of Almeria, in southern Spain.

"I couldn’t keep them, it wasn’t my money," he told La Voz de Almeria. Abdelfarid then went to the Almeria police station and the owner eventually recovered his documents and his money.

The Moroccan homeless man received a "small reward" for his act, the newspaper specifies. "I don’t want to do bad things because afterwards it could backfire on me," he justified himself.

As the newspaper points out, the Moroccan is one of the 1,800 homeless people in the city of Almeria. Most of them survive by begging or looking for food in the trash cans.
