Historic Rolls-Royce Customized for King Hassan II’s Falconry Sold at Auction

The 1977 Rolls-Royce Camargue that belonged to the late King Hassan II and was held by the German car collector and designer Michael Fröhlich, who also developed the PG Elektrus (a small electric sports car, a direct competitor of the Tesla Roadster), has been sold.
"It is no longer for sale: a buyer has already paid a deposit (10,000 euros) to reserve it pending the completion of the transaction," he confirms to Jeune Afrique, without however disclosing the identity of the buyer. The vehicle was auctioned with a starting price of 248,000 euros.
This unique car was completely "customized" by the famous Italian coachbuilder and automotive designer Franco Sbarro in his Swiss workshops at the request of King Hassan II to adapt it to falconry, one of his favorite activities. "While the overall appearance may surprise fans of classic Rolls-Royces, who are generally quite critical of the Camargue, which they find has the air of large American sedans like Buick or Cadillac, this piece is nonetheless a jewel, a collector’s dream," comments a Moroccan automotive journalist. According to him, "the fact that it belonged" to the late king "shrouds it in mystery, even a kind of sacred aura."
