Historic Moroccan Fortress Agadir Oufella Partially Reopens After Restoration

After two years of rehabilitation work, the Agadir Oufella site, a Moroccan historic monument, will be partially open to the public. Only the outdoor area of the fortress will be accessible to visitors.
Initially, the visit will be limited to the outdoor area of the ramparts, given that the interior of the fortress is still under construction for a few more months (completion of the decking, signage...). As for the restaurants, they will only be operational after the appointment of a manager through a Call for Expressions of Interest, the procedure of which is underway, indicates a press release from the regional council.
These works were initiated as part of the urban development program of the city of Agadir (2020-2024) and were entrusted to the Société de Développement Touristique Souss Massa, as the delegated project owner, the same source points out.
Thus, the work outside the ramparts of Agadir Oufella is almost completed. It concerns the restoration of the walls and reconstructions, the consolidation and reinforcement of the defensive towers of the Kasbah, the construction and development of a platform, located at the same level as the Kasbah, dedicated to service facilities: spaces for catering, a tourist information office, premises for security services, and sanitary facilities.
This is in addition to the construction and development of a platform located at the bottom of the site for the reception and orientation of visitors, the rehabilitation and development of pedestrian paths leading to Agadir Oufella, the lighting of the East and South walls and the main entrance, the installation of information and orientation signage outside the Kasbah, the planting of the surrounding areas of the Kasbah with argan trees and accompanying species.
