Hillary Clinton Dons Moroccan-Inspired Gown at Tony Awards, Promotes ’Suffs’ Musical

Hilary Clinton, former First Lady of the United States and former candidate for the US presidential election, appeared in a Moroccan gandoura during the Tony Awards ceremony, an event that rewards Broadway productions.
Hilary Clinton made an appearance at the Tony Awards ceremony on Sunday, June 16. The former US Secretary of State appeared sublime in a white gandoura embroidered with gold thread. "In my sparkling caftan era, with the suffragist white and gold," she comments in a post on her Instagram account, thus referring to the history of "Suffs," the musical comedy she co-produces that was awarded in the categories "Best Musical Book" and "Best Original Music" during the ceremony. The play, set in 1913, follows suffragettes in their fight for the right to vote for American women, which was granted in 1920.
Hilary Clinton is a lover of traditional Moroccan attire. In 2022, she already appeared in a Moroccan gandoura on the red carpet of the 79th Venice Mostra. On her Instagram account, she had opened the "caftan season" in 2021 with the same outfit she had worn in 2017 on the occasion of the wedding party of Alexander Sxieca and Sophie Lasry, daughter of the Moroccan billionaire Marc Lasry, a long-time friend of the Clinton couple. In 2000, the former First Lady had worn a beautiful white-gold brocade caftan during an official visit with her husband Bill Clinton to Morocco.
