New High-Speed Ferry Service Launches Between Spain and Morocco for Summer Travel Season

The Spanish maritime company Baleària is preparing to launch a new connection between the port of Tarifa and that of Tangier City, with a fast ferry. This arrival coincides with the launch of the Marhaba operation dedicated to Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE).

Starting tomorrow, Thursday, May 8, Baleària will launch the maritime connection between Tarifa (province of Cadiz) and Tangier City. The maritime company will offer four rotations from each port. This connection will initially be operated by the high-speed ferry Avemar Dos, which has recently completed its docking trials on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar. A second fast ship, also extensively modernized, will complement the service. The duration of this crossing is about 1 hour, with departures scheduled from morning until late evening.

The new line is the fourth connection operated by Baleària between Spain and Morocco, after those to Tangier Med, Nador and Motril. This initiative is part of the company’s strategy to expand in the Moroccan market and strengthen connections between the two shores. Georges Bassoul, in a press release, described this opening as a "decisive milestone in the development of our presence on the southern Mediterranean coast". His company aims, he said, to offer a quality, reliable and comfortable service to both Moroccan and European passengers.

Baleària has been operating in Morocco since 2003. Last year, the company transported nearly one million passengers and more than 150,000 trucks, representing 20% of its total traffic, with continuous annual growth in freight.
