High-Speed Drug Smuggling: Police Chase Cannabis Traffickers in Gibraltar Strait

In the Strait of Gibraltar, the police are tracking drug traffickers trying to penetrate the southern border of Europe, between Morocco and Spain. In total, nearly 80% of the cannabis consumed in Europe is produced in Morocco.
Traffickers charter expensive boats to carry out "go-fast" at the southern border of Europe, between Morocco and Spain, which has become the European gateway for cannabis, reports LCI.
For its part, the Guardia Civil uses boats such as 350 horsepower V8s, sold between 35,000 and 50,000 euros, to track down these drug traffickers. In the strait, these traffickers try to cross the border day and night. At night, they use one of the many irrigation canals that criss-cross the land, the same source specifies.
These attempts are numerous, because the activity is very lucrative.
In 2019, Paris Match reported that the Guardia Civil based in Malaga had made 5,000 arrests in a year, and seized 150 tons of hashish.
