The teenager, originally from the village of Ait Chiker, had not been heard from since the morning of 14 February. She had left her sister’s home in Ouaouizeght to attend her local middle school, a daily journey she never completed, sending shockwaves throughout the region.

For more than a week, local authorities, security forces and hundreds of volunteers from neighboring douars combed the region. The intense search operation, which covered several kilometers of mountainous terrain, ended tragically when the body was located in the waters of the artificial lake.

Authorities announced the opening of a judicial investigation to “determine the exact circumstances and causes of this death.” The body was transferred to the morgue for an autopsy, while support efforts are being organized for the family.
